Blackouts are events experienced by members of The Blackout Club (Group).

Description[ | ]

A blackout occurs when a Voice assumes full control of a human's body, mind, and mental state. As suggested by the name, they can be described as missing time or gaps in the memory. Specifically, blackouts are said to happen when a Voice assumes control of a person without their consent. [1] Voices have the strongest control and influence over their Hosts, even those who are entirely unaware of Voices. However, as described by About My Blackouts journal entries, members of The Blackout Club have experienced several, sometimes with partial memories of the experiences. A Host can only be controlled by the single Voice they host, while adolescents who are not yet mental mature enough to host a Voice can be put into a blackout by any of them.

History[ | ]

Before the Game[ | ]

As The Voices rely on Hosts to survive and propagate, they have used blackouts tactically over the ages to survive. However, most prefer subtler, subconscious means of influencing their hosts. "Blackouts happen when something goes wrong. They are too overt, and they tend to get the host heavily medicated, institutionalized, etc. The plague of them in Redacre is a signal that conflict has begun, the Voices are going weapons free.[2]

The Moon[ | ]

Main article: The Moon

The moon has long been a symbol of the non-SPEAK-AS-ONE Voices. According to IN-HER-TEETH, players travel to the Moon during a blackout because it is "A SAFE PLACE".[3] The safety of The Moon is in question after DANCE-FOR-US was murdered by HUNT-THE-STRONG there.[4]

The Place Between[ | ]

The Place Between is a dream of an ancient memory, when the Voices were born and first spoke to humans. The Sun meeting the Moon, the eclipse, is a holy time from their beginning.[5]
