Steal is one of the four mission types in The Blackout Club (game).

Mission Briefing

We don't know why, but the bad guys steal our dreams, mess with our heads. Bells said they also take things from our rooms... like familiar, personal stuff to help them brainwash us with their creepy machines. Anyways tonight - we take something back.

Description

Steal missions require the players to take something from Sleepers and Lucids. These missions attempt to thwart Sleeper/Lucid plans and/or attempt to recover items critical to The Blackout Club's pursuit of determining what is happening in Redacre and what happened to Bells.

Potential Mission Objectives

When completing a Steal mission, there are 11 possible objectives. Players may be asked to complete any of the follow objectives - the number of objectives that need to be completed is determined in part by the host's level. Some objectives must be completed sequentially due to the nature of the objective; the "Next Objective" describes what objective may follow.

Bring Us Home

Description: Move the Singing Stone back into the maze. It's a temp fix, but at least it'll keep that creepy sleepwalker song underground. Don't drop the stone or get caught. If you lose it, go back to where you got this one and get another.

Next Objective: Random

Objective Item(s):

Harmonizer

(Singing Stone)

Harmonizer Icon
Harmonizer
"This is a two-headed singing relic held in some great esteem by the Lucids. We don't know it's purpose, but we do know that for some reason, the moment it gets moved even slightly, it starts to make this loud noise. You have to be careful moving this one!"

The Harmonizer emits loud music when moved - its eyes and mouth will open as it emits sound. Enemies in roughly a 50-foot [1] radius will be able to hear the music and will come running to the Harmonizer's location.

Harmonizer Stand
Harmonizer Stand
A stand that holds the singing stone. After grabbing the singing stone from the original stand, the player will take it to an identical stand in the Maze.

If the player loses the Harmonizer, interacting with the original stand will spawn a new Singing Stone.

Build the Network

Description: Place the relays to connect the source and transmitter. They need line of sight to get a connection. Each signal relay needs to SEE the next one in order to bounce the signal for us. Build your network of relays so it reaches our transmitter above ground on one end. Connect the other to their Deep Dark secret workstation down below. "Like stringing yarn through a maze." Dax keeps saying. If you stick a relay in a bad spot, don't worry - you can remove it!

Next Objective: (random)

A small device on the walls around the Maze in many of the rooms where the Transmitter must connect via Signal Relays. Only one Workstation will be available to connect to the Transmitter.

Carry The Torch

Description: Take that First Fire torch-looking thing to our dead-drop so we can figure out what that pattern of light does to the Sleepers. Be careful - it WILL light you up! If you lose it, you have to get another one.

"This is a flameless torch relic that the Lucids use to represent "burning the candle at both ends". The Lucids have some kind of reverence for this item. It would be a shame if someone were to steal it..."

A two-sided torch emitting bright pink light. Picking this item up will cause the player to be well lit even when standing in shadows. Holding the First Fire allows Lucids and The Shape to see the player much better. The First Fire will be found on a small table bearing the eye symbol.

The player cannot switch to a different item while carrying the First Fire. The First Fire must be dropped to use other items.

The First Fire is also a primary subject of the DS/Bell Chat Transcript Journal.

Find The Missing Drone

Description: Dax is great. He's probably reading this, so - yes, OK, he's very smart. Sometimes his inventions even work! But not tonight. He tried to steal a CHORUS binder of some kind with his custom drone, and ... we are pretty sure it crashed. Not sure exactly where it landed but hopefully the binder is still attached?

Next Objective: Recover the CHORUS Binder

Objective Item(s):

Damaged Drone
DownedDrone Icon
DownedDrone
"Dax's custom drone, damaged from when it crashed. Sparking and smoking, it needs some light work to get it flying again"'.

Insert Cryptograms Into Projector

Description: Investigate the Maze for an archived recording of a specific Cryptogram (like an Emote, used as some kinda physical language by the bad guys). These are usually stored in the Archives, but the Cryptogram Library is a good place to look as well. If a Lucid has checked out the Cryptogram recently, they may have taken it elsewhere in the Maze... The Cryptogram looks like a wooden slide with an identifying symbol of some kind on it. Pick up the Cryptogram and investigate its contents by using a projector.

Pickpocket Evidence Bags

Description: They sent a few bad guys to collect evidence of our last mission - we ...messed up, got sloppy. They just finished up - we think they still have the forensics on them. Can you go pickpocket the bag off them and bring them back to the Hideout?

Pickup Signal Relays

Description: Pick up the Relay Bundles. The CHORUS types hate most tech, recordings, the internet. But someone taught these hypocrites a little tech - you see it at night. Why? We want to route a signal from deep in their maze out to our receivers. So; we build our own secret network! First, grab the signal relays.

Next Objective: Build the Network

Recover the CHORUS Binder

Description: Nice! The drone can be replaced. Hell, Dax can be replaced - but that binder is PRECIOUS. He says something struck it mid-air, it started losing cargo. It'll retrace its flight path, though - try following it back to where it lost the binder - don't lose track of it!

Next Objective: Random

Record Behavior

Description: Set up recording circle. Record enemy in circle. Some of the bad guys have found a new level of weird... we've seen a few repeating creepy poses, for like days at a time. Bells said some of the Sleepers have even... died doing it. It's part of a code, or, or something? To crack it, we need to record all we can for HQ. Oh, also, hey! If you knock them out, the circle will wake them back up, so tranq if you need to.

Next Objective: Random

Objective Item(s):

Name Icon In-Game Description/Use
Recording Circle

The recording circle consists of DANCE-FOR-US's icon.

RecordingBehavior LocationIcon
RecordingBehavior Sleeper
After setting up the Recording Circle, lure a Sleeper or Lucid into the circle. Players can also tranquilize a sleeper and bring their body to the circle as the circle will wake the enemy back up. After an enemy is in the circle, they will stand and start performing the Chase the Sun gesture and the TV-static overlay will appear on the sleeper indicating they can be recorded. After successfully recording the enemy, they will kneel in the circle.

Steal The Cryptograms

To Carry A Tune

Description: Find Harmonizer. Harmonizer will be on a Shrine. There is a musical device that the bad guys use to extend the range of their big, creepy Instrument thing. It emits a strange song whenever it is moved. We want to put it back underground. It can get LOUD, so be careful! You can only carry one at a time. Once you pick it up, we'll tell you where to take it. If you lose it, you'll have to go back to the first place and get another one.
